年年都有同學 post: 「我 mock Reading 60 分、Writing 55 分、Listening 65 分、Speaking 好似 ok，點解 final 得 Level 3？」——答案通常係佢唔知 final level 唔係 4 張卷分數平均，而係經 weight + IRT scaling 計出嚟嘅能力 score。

Paper 1 共 1hr 30min，分兩部分：Part A（所有考生必答）+ Part B（B1 easier tier 或 B2 harder tier 擇一）。

B1 vs B2 真實分別
- Text length: B2 passage 比 B1 長約 30-40%（B2 通常 900-1,200 字、B1 600-800 字）
- Vocabulary level: B1 集中 B1-B2 CEFR 詞彙，B2 有 B2-C1 甚至 C2 嘅 abstract word
- Question type: B1 多 literal comprehension 同 simple inference；B2 有 tone / attitude / authorial intent / irony 嘅 higher-order question
- Scaling: HKEAA 會將 B1 最高可能 level cap 喺 Level 4（即 B1 同學做到 100% 都最多 Level 4），B2 同學先有機會去 Level 5 / 5* / 5**
如果你班主任/英文老師建議你揀 B1 section，即係學校 assess 你實力 Level 3-4 之間。穩陣揀 B1 可以穩袋 Level 4，但永遠冇可能升 Level 5。如果你 mock 已經穩定 Level 4，要諗下 B2 嘅 upside。
逐題計分細節
- MC 題: 1 mark 每條，錯冇扣分（唔考 negative marking）
- Short response 1-2 words: 1 mark，要 exact wording 或者 content word 無誤
- Short response 3+ words: 2-3 marks，partial credit 存在但 marker 會睇完整表達
- Gap-fill / sentence completion: 1-2 marks，spelling 要啱，明顯錯嘅 grammatical form 會扣分
- Matching: 1 mark 每對，部分題 group mark（eg. 全中正 4 分，中 3 個 3 分）
Paper 1 高 ROI 策略
- Part A 要穩（38 分基礎）: 呢部分題目 straightforward，Level 5 考生應該拎 33+/38
- B2 high-order 題練 attitude / tone: “What is the writer’s attitude?”「What is ironic about paragraph 3?」——呢類題佔 B2 大約 20% 分，但係 Level 5 vs Level 4 嘅分水嶺
- 做 past paper 時計 timing: 1hr 30min 真係緊，good candidates 通常用 85-90 min 完成 + 5 min check
Paper 2 Writing 計分方法（25%）
Paper 2 共 2hr。Part A short text（200 字左右）所有考生必答；Part B long text（400 字）8 選 1 題目。
Writing 計分架構

Marker 每 criterion 畀 1-7 band score（7 = 最高）。Final Paper 2 分數 = Part A (C+L+O) + Part B (C+L+O)，scale 成 100 分。
Level 5 Writing 嘅 3 個 signature
根據 HKEAA 多年 Examiners’ Report，Level 5 嘅 essay 有 3 個 common attributes：
Signature 1: Varied sentence structure
唔係每句都 subject-verb-object。有 subordinate clause、relative clause、participial phrase、inversion。Eg. “Having waited for the bus for over 20 minutes, she finally gave up.” vs Level 3 嘅 “She waited for the bus. The bus did not come. She gave up.”
Signature 2: Precise vocabulary, not fancy vocabulary
Level 5 揀啱個字嘅 connotation。用 “diligent” 而唔係 “hardworking”（nuance diff: diligent 更 sustained），用 “reluctant” 而唔係 “not want”（reluctant = emotionally conflicted）。Level 5 考生就算用 B2 字都用得準；Level 3/4 考生成日用錯 collocation 嘅 C1 字。
Signature 3: Cohesion beyond connectors
唔係只用 “firstly / secondly / finally”。用 pronoun reference（“This approach, however, fails when…”）、lexical repetition with variation（第一段用 “climate change”，第二段用 “the warming crisis”）、topic sentence 嘅 logical flow。
Part B 8 條題目點揀？
Part B 8 選 1，每屆 cover 8 個 genre / module。典型分佈（以近年為例）：

建議揀題策略: 唔好隨大勢揀 “safest” topic，揀你真係有 specific content 嘅 topic。Markers 最易識穿 template essay（“Social media has both advantages and disadvantages…”）——呢種文章 Content criterion 直接入 3-4 band。
Part A 淨計分嚟講冇 Part B 重要（Part A ~30%, Part B ~70% of total Paper 2 marks），但如果 Part A 完全唔達標（eg. 冇按 functional form 寫、off topic），成張卷 L + O 嘅 impression 會被拖累。建議 Part A 用 30-35 min, Part B 用 80-85 min, 留 10 min revise。

- Tense 亂飛: 過去時事件一時 past simple 一時 present simple，Grammar 一路扣
- Connector 堆砌: 每段 3 個 “moreover / furthermore / in addition”，Organisation 分被降
- Word count 嚴重不足: Part B 寫唔夠 350 字，Content development 直入低 band
- Format 錯: 寫 letter 冇 signature、寫 article 冇 headline，可扣去 2 分
- Rehearsed idea dump: 硬塞 memorised essay chunk，content 同 prompt 脫節，Content criterion 跌到底
Paper 3 Listening & Integrated Skills 計分方法（30%）
Paper 3 係 DSE English 計分 weight 最大嘅一張（30%），大部分考生誤以為 weight 平均。呢張卷分 Part A（所有人）+ Part B1 / B2 擇一，配音軌 + integrated task。

Listening 扣分 triggers
- Spelling 錯 1 key content word = 扣 1 mark（eg. 答 “museam” 扣 1 mark，“museum” 係啱）
- 捉到內容但 preposition 錯 通常保留大部分分（因為 content primary）
- Plural form 錯（“student” vs “students”）= 扣部分分，視乎 grading scheme 該題係 singular-specific 定 plural-specific
- Number 串錯 = 1 mark（2024 vs 2024 數字 / date 必須 exact）
- 填錯 column 喺 table-type question = 0 mark（即使內容正確）
Integrated Writing Task 點計分
Part B 嘅 integrated writing 用同 Paper 2 類似嘅 C + L + O rubric，但 Content 嘅權重特別重——因為你必須用 Data File 嘅 specific detail 做 support。完全唔用 Data File、寫 generic essay = Content criterion 入低 band 無論 language 有幾靚。
Paper 3 高 ROI 策略
- Dictation 部分要做 drill: 每日 1-2 條 past paper 聽力，focus 喺 accurate spelling + 數字 + 日期
- Note-taking shorthand: 考生要訓練自己 30 秒內 capture 5-8 個 key detail。Cambridge-style shorthand (＋, →, b/c, w/, govt) 可以慳時間
- B1 integrated writing 要 cover 晒所有 prompt 要求: 漏 1 個 task requirement 直接減 Content 1 band

Paper 4 Speaking 計分方法（10%）

每個 category 最高 7 mark，總共 35 mark。之後乘以 scaling factor 變 100 mark。
其他 4 個 category 需要 vocab / grammar 底子，但 Communication Strategies 純粹睇你有冇主動 engage group — 唔需要任何 C1 字。一句 "D, what do you think?" + "Building on that..." 就可以由 3 band 升 5 band。呢欄係 cost-zero ROI-high 嘅攻分 target。
Speaking 點避免 Level 3 trap
HKEAA Examiners’ Report 年年指出同一個問題: 部分考生直接用預先背定嘅 response，同 prompt 脫節。marker 聽得出（因為 intonation 過 rehearsed、content 同 prompt slightly off），直接喺 Ideas criterion 打低 band。Solution: 唔好背 response，背 framework（eg. “個人 → 學校 → 社會” 三層 scaffold 任何 topic 都通）。
SBA 校本評核計分方法（15%）
SBA = School-based Assessment，中五 + 中六兩年累積。每間學校自己安排 task，但必須包含 Individual Presentation（通常 book/film report）+ Group Interaction。
SBA 計分步驟
- 學校老師用 HKEAA 提供嘅 rubric 評每位同學 2-4 個 task（每 task 滿分 21，cover Pronunciation + Vocabulary + Grammar + Interaction + Ideas）
- 學校將所有同學分數上報 HKEAA
- HKEAA 做 statistical moderation，對比該校 SBA 分數同該校 written paper 分數嘅 correlation
- 如果某校普遍 SBA 過分通 inflated，全校 SBA 會 down-moderate（即全班分數被 rescale 向下）
- Moderated SBA score × 15% = SBA final contribution to Level
SBA 選材策略
揀書或戲嘅 criterion：
- 真係有 personal connection 嘅（marker 聽得出）
- 有 enough substance for 3+ discussion angle（single-plot 故事好難撐 book report）
- 避免全班揀同一本書（marker 比較時你冇 distinction）
Book Report 高分 feature
- Opening hook: 用 specific scene / quote 開場，唔好用 “The book I chose is…”
- Personal response ≠ summary: marker 唔想聽你 recount plot，佢想聽你對 theme 嘅 reaction
- Critical perspective: “The author wants the reader to X, but I found myself questioning Y…”
- Relate to 香港 context: “What surprised me was how much this resonates with Hong Kong’s own…“
4 張卷 + SBA 點夾成 final level?
原理：raw score → weighted sum → IRT scaling → level threshold。同樣 weighted score，唔同年份嘅 scaling 結果可以 differ。
Worked example: 計一個 hypothetical 考生嘅 final level
假設考生 Alice 考得：Paper 1 = 72, Paper 2 = 65, Paper 3 = 75, Paper 4 = 68, SBA = 80.
Weighted sum = (72×0.20) + (65×0.25) + (75×0.30) + (68×0.10) + (80×0.15)
= 14.4 + 16.25 + 22.5 + 6.8 + 12.0
= 71.95
IRT scaling 後，71.95 喺 historic range 落喺 Level 5 範圍（68-73% → Level 5）。Alice 拎 Level 5。
Paper 3 weight 30% 最重。如果 Alice Paper 3 由 75 跌到 55 (Level 4 → Level 3)，其他唔變，weighted sum = 65.95，final 會跌到 Level 4。等於 Paper 3 1 個 level drop = overall 1 個 level drop。Listening drill 嘅 ROI 係所有 paper 最高。

常見問題 FAQ
Paper 1 B1 vs B2 揀邊個？
一般規則：如果 mock 經常穩定 Level 4 或以上、Part B 做 past paper 冇明顯障礙，揀 B2（因為 B1 max 封頂 Level 4）。如果 mock 經常 Level 3 或以下、或者讀 abstract argumentative passage 感覺難明 topic sentence，揀 B1 比較穩陣拿 Level 3。B1 同 B2 嘅選擇係學校報名時決定，冇得考試日臨時換。同英文老師商討係最好做法。
Writing 字數唔夠會點？
Part A 要求約 200 字，Part B 要求約 400 字。字數稍為不足（eg. Part B 寫 350 字）marker 會按比例評 Content（因為你唔夠空間 develop）— Content band 就會被拖低。嚴重不足（eg. Part B 寫 200 字）Content 直接入 band 1-2。另一面，寫太長（eg. Part B 600 字）唔會扣分，但會影響你 Part A 時間分配。Sweet spot: Part A 190-220 字、Part B 380-450 字。
Listening 聽漏一題點算？
當下唔好停低嚟想——繼續聽下一題，否則連累多幾題。如果該題係 note-taking 類，答卷時可以根據上下文估答（partial credit 存在）。Listening 真實考試 passage 每條只讀一次（Part A）或兩次（部分 Part B），走神係致命傷。備考時 recommendation: 聽 TED-Ed 類視頻訓練 sustained attention 20-30 min 不走神。
Speaking 個人回應 Part B 答唔到點算？
最差情況係完全沉默，Ideas + Communication Strategies 都會被扣。Fallback: 承認 + 轉方向。「That's a really good question. Honestly, I hadn't considered it fully during the discussion, but my initial thought is...」呢句 buy 3 秒，之後即使你 content 唔強，marker 睇到你有 coherent 嘗試 engage，最少保 Level 3。寧講 generic response 都唔好沉默。
SBA 低分可以喺 DSE 追返嗎？
部分但唔完全。SBA 佔 15% weight，如果你 SBA 拉低成 10% (Level 3 SBA), 4 張 written papers 需要 all at Level 5 先可以 overall 保 Level 5. 數學上可能，但 hard margin. Recommendation: 中五 SBA 第一份都要 take seriously, 因為中六再追限於 1-2 份 task 能改善。
重考 DSE 英文 grade 會自動升嗎？
唔會自動。重考第二年你需要全部 4 張卷 + SBA 都重做（部分學校容許私人考生保留上年 SBA 成績，視乎學校制度）。大學 admissions 通常睇 best attempt，即你 take 過 2 次 DSE 英文，佢會用較高嗰次。但注意：部分競爭 programme（eg. CUHK Medical）會 prefer first-attempt candidate，重考 candidate admissions 會被略微 deprioritise。
4 張卷平均成績 50%，會係 Level 幾？
